Linux netbooks face an uphill road, according to makers of one such machine, MSI. Their director of U.S. Sales, Andy Tung, noted that returns of Linux netbooks in general have been "higher than regular notebooks...the main cause of that is Linux."

RE[4]: Simple fact of the matter …

In my experience most users fall somewhere between that extreme and the knowledgeable "power user". Even users with very basic needs are often used to particular applications. I think they're generally the people least likely to want to re-learn something else.

Windows XP gets yet another reprieve

Microsoft has confirmed that it will continue to supply major PC manufacturers with Windows XP media for "downgrades" beyond the previous deadline of 31st January, 2009. The move, which reflects the continued popularity of Windows XP and continued resistance to Windows Vista, means that users buying certain Windows Vista systems from large manufacturers can receive a copy of Windows XP along with the system, up until 31st July, 2009.

Testers sought for Blackberry-Linux sync software

A developer of Mac-based sync utilities is seeking beta testers for what it calls "the first Linux-to-BlackBerry sync solution." Information Appliance Associates (IAA) is initially testing its free "PocketMac for BlackBerry, Linux Edition" software on Xandros Linux running the KDE PIM suite.

EMC's Mozy Launches Online Backup For Business Macs

EMC's Mozy on Tuesday launched in beta an online backup service for businesses running Apple Mac servers, desktops, and notebooks.
MozyPro for Mac builds on the company's consumer edition of the service, called MozyHome for Mac. The latest version enables businesses using Mac OS X or Windows machines to manage backup and restore processes from a single, Web-based administration console, said Mozy, which is owned by storage vendor EMC.
