REFILE-Microsoft launches software for cheap Portugal laptop

Friday a software package for a Portuguese ultra-cheap laptop
for school children that the government hopes will boost the

Red Hat undercuts Microsoft on high-performance OS pricing

Red Hat Thursday released a Linux software stack for compute-intensive IT environments that it said costs less than Microsoft's price for its comparable Windows offering.
Red Hat charges a subscription of US$249 per node, or server, per year for Red Hat HPC Solution, a new offering that combines Red Hat Enterprise Linux with Platform Open Cluster Stack 5, clustering software it has licensed from Platform Computing.

Amazon takes Windows to cloud service

The addition will allow users to run SQL Server, ASP.Net and Visual Studio
code within EC2.
Amazon said that the Windows addition will also allow users to control EC2
systems through the Windows Remote Desktop software. All other Amazon Web

Unlicensed Windows risk

Small businesses which use unlicensed versions of Windows software are increasing the risk of IT-related problems, according to Microsoft-commissioned research.
The study was carried out by the Harrison Group and looked at businesses from the UK, USA, Brazil and China with between 24 and 500 PCs.
It attempted to identify differences between those with licensed software and those without and whether this impacted on areas like IT system failures.
